FRIENDS OF THE FOREST
HISTORY CENTER
The Friends of the Forest History Center
is a group of concerned citizens dedicated
to preserving, maintaining and expanding
the
Center’s operation and vital public educational program.
Due to the State of Minnesota’s
current budget crisis the Center was
scheduled to be closed for up to two
years; from July
1, 2003 to June 30, 2005. The Friends
of the Forest History Center are determined
not to allow this to happen.
To date, the Friends have raised in cash and pledges over $80,000.
As a result the Center will remain open through Labor Day, 2003.
That is a great victory for public education in forest history
and forest management discussions as well as for the tourism economy
of Minnesota.
We now have a greater challenge ahead, the Friends of the Forest
History Center are presently working to raise $300,000 to keep
the Center open after Labor Day through the early summer of 2005.
The community of Grand Rapids has several fund raising activities
planned, and the Friends are approaching regional and statewide
foundations and contacting businesses and timber industries. However,
the major support will come individuals like you.
If you would like to make a tax deductible contribution to help
keep the Forest History Center open please send a check made out
to Friends of the Forest History Center and mail to: Friends c/o
Grand Rapids Area Community Foundation 201 NW 4th Street, Central
Square Mall, Grand Rapids, MN 55744
Thank You,
Friends of the Forest
